Family Photography

Having a family shoot is so worth it. Memories captured and framed or sent to grandparents and loved ones faraway, are what it’s all about. Hanging up that shoot on your wall in your home is a beautiful thing too. It’s documenting a season as a family and that is precious - especially when you realise how fast those seasons come and go.

We recently moved provinces (from Gauteng to KZN) and in the pack-up my husband was commenting on how well documented our children’s lives are. I have a big box of pics from my childhood which I love looking through and my children enjoy digging into too. But sadly my husband has only a handful of photographs (the rest were stolen years back) and that’s so sad. Photos have a way of placing us - of giving us a sense of self - like this is me and this is us - I belong in the world and I belong with these people

Below are some of my recent family shoots. I am always so grateful when a family chooses to spend an hour or so with me - granting me and my camera access to their world. Family is a sacred space. One full of magic and mess. Speaking of mess…If you have little ones, expect a fair amount of chaos on shoot day - wardrobe tantrums, displays of chronic exasperation and exhaustion after about three photos etc. It’s totally normal and I am totally at home with this kind of scenario. We’ll make it work and we’ll have fun, I promise!
